Dr. Teresa Welsh is an Associate Professor of Library and Information Science at the University of Southern Mississippi. She earned an M.L.I.S. and later a Ph.D. in communication and information from the University of Tennessee with a specialty in information sciences. She was a member of Kappa Tau Alpha Honor Society, was awarded a Hilton A. Smith Graduate Fellowship, and awarded Best Technical Project Award and Best Doctoral Paper Award from the School of Information Sciences.


She has worked as an assistant archivist in the University of Tennessee Special Collections, as a senior research assistant and later as a database consultant at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, as a telemedicine evaluation researcher at the University of Tennessee Medical Center, and as an instructor at the University of Missouri School of Information Science & Learning Technologies, where she earned an Excellence in the Scholarship of Teaching Award in spring 2003. She has taught at Southern Miss since summer 2003 and received the 2007 Excellence in Teaching Award from the College of Education and Psychology, was one of 12 faculty chosen for the 2007-08 Learning Enhancement Center Podcasting Pilot Project, served as an assistant director for the Katrina Research Center, and served on the University of Tennessee School of Information Sciences Advisory Board. In addition to being published in scholarly journals and conference proceedings, she has authored several book chapters as well as a book on information literacy. Teaching and research interests include historical research, bibliometric research, information literacy, information retrieval, international librarianship, museum studies and archival studies.
