Thomas P. Mackey, Ph.D., is the Associate Dean at the Center for Distance Learning at Empire State College, SUNY in Saratoga Springs, New York. Previously, he was the Associate Dean of Continuing Studies for The Sage Colleges in Albany, New York. He was also a faculty member in the Department of Information Studies at the University at Albany, SUNY. His teaching and research interests involve information literacy, teaching with technology, Web-based multimedia, and social informatics. In 2007 he published a co-edited book with Trudi E. Jacobson for Neal-Schuman Publishers entitled, Information Literacy Collaborations That Work. He has published articles in such journals as Computers & Education, The Journal of General Education, College Teaching, The Journal of Information Science, and The Journal of Education for Library and Information Science. Tom worked with the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE) as a member of the Advisory Panel on Information Literacy which led to the publication of a guidebook on Information Literacy entitled Developing Research & Communication Skills: Guidelines for Information Literacy in the Curriculum (2003).
