 Dr. June Abbas, PhD, is an Associate Professor in the School of Library and Information Studies (SLIS) at the University of Oklahoma, Norman campus in Norman, Oklahoma, U.S.A. She obtained her PhD in Information Science from the University of North Texas in 2001 and taught in the Department of Library and Information Studies at the State University of New York in Buffalo from 2001-2008 before joining the SLIS in August 2008. Her research focuses on the intersection of users, technology, and structures for organizing knowledge. The outcomes of her research are applied to the development of user-centered, culturally-sensitive digital libraries, institutional repositories, and other knowledge organization structures; the potential uses and applications of Web 2.0 technologies within libraries and knowledge structures; and the development of age and cognitive-appropriate knowledge organization structures for children and young adults. The courses she teaches include those related to the organization of information and knowledge resources, cataloging and classification, indexing and surrogation, digital libraries, and digital information retrieval. She has also served as project manager on seven digital libraries projects and as a consultant to numerous projects related to the development of university institutional repositories, digitization and oral history projects in cultural heritage organizations, and content and knowledge management in private enterprise. Currently she is serving as Chair of the ALA Resource Description and Access (RDA) Programming Taskforce.
